St. Clements was the first side from the city to compete in the Scottish Cup and thus, their first cup match in 1876 is the earliest competitive game involving a side from the city.
The first ever football game played under association rules in Dundee was played on 01 Jan 1876 and involved a 'New Dundee Club' which was most likely St Clements or the club yet to be named St Clements as the match involved a number of players who would go on to play for the club.
