Strathmore: Welcome

Pioneers

Strathmore jousted with the city's early big name clubs for supremacy, never quite dominating the scene, but nevertheless the 'Stripes' attracted a large, passionate support.

For a large part of their history the club played at Rollo's Pier - a site on the current Roseangle area of the city which, prior to Strathmore's occupancy, was a muddy wasteland on the banks of the Tay more used to hosting music events and other athletic endeavours. One elderly lady speaking in the mid 1800's recalls paddling in the waters of the Tay around the pier in the late 1700's. The club's patron was the Earl of Strathmore and the committee roles were very much militaristic with there being a 'Captain' and 'Lieutenant'.

Strathmore have the honour of being the first club in the city to provide a Scottish international - William Dickson in 1888 for the match against Ireland.
